Project Description

The goal of the Asthmaware project is to provide an objective monitoring device related to asthma and improve the quality of life of people with the condition, especially children.

Overview of market need

Asthma is a chronic disease characterized by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, and occurs in people of all ages. It is the most common chronic disease among children and currently affects about 235 million people. Childhood asthma accounts for many lost school days and may deprive the affected children of both academic achievement and social interaction, in particular in underserved populations and minorities.

Asthmaware project goals

Asthmaware addresses the above-mentioned issues with a solution that will be of great help in enabling children to control their asthma and therefore contribute considerably to the reduction of asthma-related deaths and also to an increase in quality of life for children with asthma

This will also have an enormous impact on parents of children with uncontrolled asthma. Asthma attacks and emergency hospital visits can have a huge emotional impact on parents. Asthmaware is aiming to support the prevention of these events.

In addition to children and their parents, there is also a positive impact on general practitioners (GPs). The goal of Asthmaware is to provide an objective monitoring device related to asthma, which does measuring every night. It's an improvement of the current subjective snapshot diagnosis a GP can make.
