Pikku® ACTIVE for Measurement of Muscle Activity

PIKKU® ACTIVE is a smart garment for measurement of muscle activity. It aids the analysis of athletes’ daily work and recovery exercises, as well as physiotherapy during injury recovery.

Project background and how Pikku® ACTIVE works

Blautic has a family of products in the market named Pikku®, aimed at the world of professional sports. The products include advanced motion sensing devices, smart video analysis, and artificial intelligence algorithms. The goal of this project is to incorporate Pikku® ACTIVE into the company’s existing catalogue. This new product will include a new feature: the measurement of muscle activity (electromyography or EMG).

The goal of this project is to incorporate Pikku® ACTIVE into the company’s existing catalogue, which would allow for the measurement of muscle activity.

With this addition, physical activity will be measured simultaneously using both IMUs (inertial measurement units) and EMG. This feature will be integrated into each Pikku® device individually with a system of textile electrodes, which easily attach into any muscle group of the human body. As the system collects signals from several Pikku® devices simultaneously, it will measure both individual muscles or groups of muscles depending on the needs of the end user. These additional variables will be used for the analysis of athletes’ daily work and recovery exercises, as well as physiotherapy during injury recovery.

Development and SmartX support

Thanks to the SmartX programme, the following features can be added to Pikku® devices:

Interactive textiles with sensors and electrodes, quick and easy to use by non-professionals
Integration of muscular activity in the artificial intelligence models
New exercises in the app to monitor muscle activity in movements and technical gestures
Smart short videos when performing specific muscle activities
Guided rehabilitation exercises based on muscle use
Training games and smart videos with muscle feedback.
